While the history of Finley, Alt, Smith, Scharnberg, Craig, Hilmes & Gaffney, P.C. can be traced to Iowa's territorial days, the present firm dates back to the early 1900s. Traditionally, the firm has been noted for its outstanding civil litigation practice. We work frequently in the following areas: products liability, personal injury, medical malpractice, legal malpractice, complex commercial litigation, class action litigation, fire, railroad, employment, construction, business torts, real estate, hospital and health.
The firm continues to expand its transactional and business practice, encompassing such traditional areas as corporate, tax, real estate, land use, probate, estate planning, banking, insurance, and media/communications.
The firm encourages participation in community activities and devotes a significant number of hours to pro bono work each year. We are frequently asked by clients to speak at in-house training programs. Several of our members have been elected to membership in organizations recognizing their professional success including The American College of Trial Lawyers, the American Board of Trial Advocates and the Iowa Academy of Trial Lawyers.
