OverviewTom recently retired after more than 55 years of practice. Prior to retirement, Tom concentrated his practice in trial law. Over his long career, he cultivated extensive experience in a variety of practice areas, but was best known for his work in complex medical and professional negligence matters. Tom was a frequent local, state, and natural lecturer in the area of trial practice and authored articles on health law, medical practice, and trial practice. In the later years of his practice, Tom conducted an active mediation practice, serving as the neutral in a variety of litigated matters across the state. He remains a member of the National Academy of Distinguished Neutrals and is a respected member of the Iowa State Bar Association, having been appointed as a special master by the Iowa Supreme Court to study attorney advertising and as a former chair of the Committees on Professional Responsibility and Ethics. Tom remains active in the Finley Law Firm, serving as a mentor and friend to his partners and colleagues. He also enjoys spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren.
