Finley Law Firm's Erik Bergeland has been elected to serve as the 2024 President of the Iowa Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA). He assumes the position following his role as Vice President of the organization. Bergeland has been an active and distinguished member of ABOTA since 2020.
ABOTA is an invitation-only national association of 7,600 experienced trial lawyers and judges dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the Seventh Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which guarantees the right to civil jury trials. ABOTA’s primary goal is to educate the American public about the history and value of the right to trial by jury and is dedicated to elevating the standards of skill, integrity, honor and courtesy in the legal profession. The Iowa Chapter of includes only approximately 80 members. Members must have several years of active experience as trial lawyers, have tried at least ten civil jury trials to conclusion, and possess additional litigation experience. Members must also exhibit the virtues of civility, integrity and professionalism outlined in the organization’s code of professionalism.
